About the project
The Victoria and Albert Museum is the world's leading museum of art, design and performance, representing over 3,000 years of human creativity, with unparalleled collections in scope and diversity and inspiring events. The great Medieval and Renaissance galleries of the V&A Museum present a wide range of European art and crafts from the years 300 to 1600 where Camar had the pleasure of working on the renovation of this area designed by the studio McInnes Usher McKnight Architects (MUMA).
The intervention required maximum respect for the displayed collections and for the Victorian architecture of the building itself. Spanish marbles were selected for their ability to dialogue with medieval pieces without visually competing with them. Each room received specific treatment adapted to the historical period of the objects it houses, creating coherent atmospheres that facilitate contemplation.
Working in one of the world's most visited museums posed an exceptional logistical challenge: nighttime installation to avoid interrupting opening hours, exhaustive protection of nearby artworks, compliance with British preventive conservation regulations. The result is an invisible but fundamental intervention that enhances the visitor experience without protagonism.
