About the project
In the historic center of the town of Macael, the birthplace of the white marble that bears its name and that has been used for centuries by countless cultures, stands a replica of the Lions Fountain made by Camar in tribute to the marble used to build the palaces of the Alhambra of Granada.
The fountain consists of the main 260 cm diameter dodecagonal basin, surrounded by 12 lions (6 males and 6 females according to Alhambra legends). Around it, a small water channel is also made of Blanco Macael marble.
During your visit, you can read the translation of the classical Arabic of the 12 verses of the poem carved on the rim of the main basin, done by professors from the University of Granada Darío Cabanelas and Antonio Fernández Puertas.
